There was a good response to the special activities organised by Age UK Isle of Wight during the ‘Celebrating Age Festival’.
Starting the week several coffee mornings and tea parties were put on across the Island in libraries.
Drinks and cakes were enjoyed not only by older members of the public and at Lord Louis Library, Newport Amanda Coyle from the Isle of Wight Volunteer Centre was on hand to offer advice to anyone seeking information on volunteering.
Lord Louis Library, Newport was again the venue for a poetry club reading session. Although this popular club has regular meetings in the library the number of those attending was boosted through the ‘Celebrating Age Festival’.
Wednesday saw the getting together for the first time of all the Independent Arts SingAbout Groups. With groups in Freshwater, Newport, Ryde, East Cowes, Sandown, Lake and Ventnor St. Thomas’s Minster resounded to the sound of joyful singing together with some actions. These groups were joined by the Singing for Breathing group as well as members of the public looking to have a lunch-time ‘SingAbout.
On Thursday the Riverside Centre, now just called The Riverside opened its doors to show off the various activities on offer there. These included the Footprint Trust and Newport Parish Council.
