Welsh rock band, Stereophonics, previously graced the Seaclose Park stage in 2004, 2009 and 2016 and are returning to this park in Newport IW for this year’s Sky presents the IW Festival.
Their hit singles include “The Bartender and The Thief”, ”Mama Told Me Not To Come” (with Tom Jones), “Mr Writer”, “ Handbags and Gladrags “, “Maybe Tomorrow” and their sole number one “Dakota”, in 2005. In total, they have 10 top 10 singles.
Hailing from a small town, Cwmaman, in Mid Glamorgan they comprise Kelly Jones-lead vocals and guitar, Bassist- Richard Jones, Adam Zindani,.on rhythm guitar and Jamie Morrison- drums and percussion. .Additionally, Tony Kirkham on keyboards and Gavin Fitzjohn on saxophone and guitar are touring members of the band.
In 1986, the fledgling band recorded a demo as Zephyr.In 1992, they were known as Tragic Love Company before their final moniker, Stereophonics,which came from the name of a gramophone.
In that same year, the band was the first music act to be signed by V2 Records, releasing their first single in 1996.
Their live performances have been praised, leading to headline slots at Reading and Leeds in 2000, Glastonbury in 2002, Isle of Wight in 2004 and 2009, and Latitude in 2017.
On their busy tour itinerary, two interesting venues stand out for 2025-Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on the 11th and 12th of July and Sandringham Estate, Norfolk on 16th of August.
Released on Friday 25th of April, their 13th studio album “Make’em Laugh, Make’em Cry. Make’em Wait “ was much awaited.
It became their ninth number one album, edging out the Swedish heavy metal band Ghost,with their latest offering- “Skeleta”.
Stereophonics take to the stage at Seaclose Park, Newport IW on Saturday 21st of June this year.
