SHANKLIN BROWNIES HELP THE ENVIRONMENT

Looking after the environment has always been high on GIrlguiding’s agenda, so it no surprise that Shanklin Brownies have been helping by planting trees.

With the help of Brown Owl, other leaders and a Guide from The Bay Guides Unit a selection of four varieties of trees, provided by The Woodland Trust, were planted. These included Dogwood and Hawthorn which will not provide greenery but will produce flowers and berries at different seasons of the year.

This was one of the first outdoor meetings for the Brownies after the recent COVID lockdowns and everyone was pleased to get out and about again. Learning about the environment from Sarah from Planet Aware and how to plant and look after the trees from Tony from IW Council added to the fun of the outing. All the Brownies are looking forward to seeing how the trees grow in the future.
