PUSH THE BOAT OUT THIS MAY FROM THE ISLE OF WIGHT

Here is the chance to try sailing:

If you’re on the lookout for something completely different, whether you’re bored of the gym and want some outdoor health and fitness, are a bit of an adrenaline junkie, need something to switch your brain off from everyday life or simply want a sociable new activity you can enjoy with your partner or family, pop down to one of two Island sailing venues that are hosting ” Push The Boat Out” events and just have a go. Push the Boat Out 2018 is a great scheme run by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) at hundreds of clubs around the country including the two on the Island.

Each club will be holding a special day when they open up their doors to welcome families and individuals of all abilities to come and experience the thrill of an outing on the water. They are:

Brading Haven Yacht Club – Saturday 12th May 1400 – 1800

UKSA, Cowes- Saturday 26th May 0900 – 1600

You can head to the RYA website to find contact information and details of the day’s itinerary for each club.

Each Push The Boat Out event will provide all the equipment you need, just bring a change of clothes, trainers/canvas shoes and a towel. Sessions are a minimum of half an hour and can be longer, so ask your chosen club for full details. Clubs will have refreshments available.

Susie Moore RYA Regional Development Officer for the south region, said: “So many people still don’t realise how easy it can be to get into sailing and windsurfing, and that you don’t even need to own a boat or board as clubs and centres have ones you can borrow or hire.

Most clubs have excellent, accessible clubhouse facilities, which include comfortable lounges, up-to-date changing areas and rooms dedicated to learning to sail and knowledge improvement. You will discover all this at Push The Boat Out.”

Last year 31,000 people ‘pushed the boat out’ at over 500 sailing and windsurfing taster sessions throughout the UK.
