Daisy McKVentnor Girlguiding member Daisy McKenna has won a prize in a national competition organised by Marie Curie.
Julie Hudleston, leader of 1st Ventnor Guides where Daisy (aged 12) is a member said “I don’t know where I read it but we have been doing the competition for the last four or five years at least. Marie Curie send us the daffodils in about October and we plant the daffodils in pots. Then in February the girls donate the pots (their daffs should be flowering by then) to whoever they wish to. We also do the competition then. We call it the Mini Pots of Care Fundraising Day as on that day I also give out the sponsorship envelopes and the girls collect donations from family/friends. The competition is: they have to paint the pot wrappers provided from their planting kit, to decorate them with themes related to Marie Curie Cancer Care. I enter the most decorative wrapper into the competition – I can only send off one wrapper.”
Congratulations from Marie Curie were sent to Daisy who is Area Winner for Hampshire & Isle of Wight ‘Mini Pots of Care Wrapper Competition’ as well as winning the Regional competition for London and South East.
Two prizes were sent for Daisy and she was presented with them at a Guide Meeting by Julie who added “Daisy truly deserved to win as she took a lot of care with her creation and of course she is a lovely girl.”
