Cowes Week Limited is delighted to announce that they will continue their youth initiative which offers discounted entry fees to boats with crews of under 25 year olds.
The Under 25 Youth initiative, which has been running since 2012, has succeeded in doing what it was originally designed for – inspiring and making it possible for young people to race at Lendy Cowes Week.
By offering an extremely attractive package to young sailors under the age of 25, numbers have, not surprisingly, increased over the last few years, with young crews enjoying both the exciting racing and the lively apres-sail scene shoreside.
This year, Cowes Week Ltd is offering the first 25 crews to enter, who are all under age 25 at the time of the regatta, a 50% discount on the entry fee. The sooner teams sign up the more chance there is of securing one of the highly desirable discounted places.
Laurence Mead, Regatta Director commented:
“It’s very exciting to see all the young faces enjoying Lendy Cowes Week every year. Last year’s Under 25 Trophy winners sailed their boat incredibly well and were second in class. Two years ago Freddie Peters was the overall winner of the whole regatta at the very tender age of 14. Boat racing really is a sport for all ages and although racing in the Solent is supposed to takes years to master it’s great to see such committed young sailors out on the Cowes Week start lines proving that old adage wrong”
In 2018, competition was fierce out on the water, but the Under 25 crew of Team Heiner III, not only took home the Land Rover Under 25 Trophy but also won the TNG Newcomers trophy, Musto Young Skipper trophy and were second overall in IRC 3 Class.
Teams wishing to take advantage of discounted entry fees should make an entry as soon as possible.
Cowes Week Ltd is also delighted to announce news of some of the regatta sponsors:
Westerhall Rums have renewed their sponsorship for a further year as Lendy Cowes Week Official Rum. Westerhall, who are now in their 3rd year of sponsorship, have brought their Caribbean party spirit to the event and introduced the delicious Pink ‘n’ Stormy to the sailors and spectators of Lendy Cowes Week.
Chatham, the celebrated Great British shoe label, has renewed their sponsorship of Lendy Cowes Week for a further two years. Cowes Week Ltd look forward to welcoming back Chatham, who have been supporters of the regatta since 2013. The brand is an excellent fit for the regatta with their stylish and comfortable footwear popular with sailors and spectators alike.
Philip Marsh, Managing Director of Chatham commented:“We are delighted to be sponsoring Cowes Week for the 7th year running.
