Girlguiding IW members are always ready to help other charities and recently members of Carisbrooke and Binstead Guides were on hand at the Finish line at the half-way stage- Carisbrooke Castle- of this year’s “Walk the Wight” which raises funds for the Mountbatten charity. The Girlguiding members handed out medals to those completing this part of the walk- Bembridge to Carisbrooke 13+ miles.
Over 9,300 people took part in Walk the Wight 2025 on Sunday, 11 May.
Early fundraising totals show a massive £410,000 has already been raised overall, with more money due to be paid-in in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile Schools Walk participants rocketed. 500 more walkers took on the route from Freshwater Bay to Alum Bay, having hopped, skipped, walked or jumped the rest of the distance, in their own time. The Schools Walk has already raised £46,000 — that’s £6,000 more than in 2024, with more money still to be collected.
The day itself was super sunny and it spurred on walkers over four different routes, including the main 26.5 miles, from Bembridge to Alum Bay.
