Over 100 excited Guides and Rangers from the Island headed to London’s OVO Arena Wembley recently for an unforgettable time of live music at Girlguiding’s Big Gig.
Dancing and singing along to some of their favourite artistes including multimillion-selling chart toppers JLS and Scouting For Girls, the girls from the Island were among more than 21,000 Girlguiding members aged 10-18 and their leaders who came together at Girlguiding’s iconic high-energy music concert.
JLS, one of the biggest-selling British boybands, with hits including Beat Again and Everybody in Love, were joined by Ivor Novello award-winners pop-rock band Scouting for Girls, West End superstar Kerry Ellis, Glad You Came hitmakers The Wanted 2.0, dance singer Carla Monroe and country-pop trio Midnight in Vegas.
Ahead of her Big Gig performance, Kerry Ellis, who was the first British actress to play Elphaba in Wicked, both in London’s West End and on Broadway, said: “I was a Brownie and remember my uniform and earning badges. There was a real sense of achievement, and the community Girlguiding provides is massive. It’s kind of full circle for me to be coming back now to perform at Big Gig. There’s definitely going to be a bit of Wicked included in my set and it’s going to be electric! I can’t wait to hear the girls sing back at me.”
This event was hosted by broadcaster and presenter, Girlguiding ambassador, Angellica Bell, alongside Radio 1 Live Lounge and Dance Anthems presenter Charlie Hedges.
Angellica Bell said: “As a Girlguiding ambassador I am passionate about the incredible adventures which members have available to them. Live music should be accessible to all, and Big Gig is an affordable way for girls to get together in their units and have a unique experience which they will remember forever.”
Big Gig provides the opportunity for over 21,000 Guides, Rangers, Young Leaders, and their adult leaders to come together and have fun in a safe space, celebrate Girlguiding and enjoy an unforgettable show with their friends.
After a six year wait, excitement for the return of Big Gig was so high Girlguiding members snapped up all the tickets within a record-breaking 90 minutes of going on sale.
Girlguiding’s adventure youth panel, Pioneer were involved in selecting the line-up and song choices, picking top artistes from a range of music genres to ensure there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Girlguiding offers girls the chance for all different types of adventure, from rock climbing and camping under the stars, to seeing big acts on stage at Wembley.
