GREAT WIGHT BITE 2024.

Following the success of the first Great Wight Bite Food Festival in September 2023, the event will return to Northwood Park on the 7th & 8th September this year.

If you are into food or drink or both, as most foodies are, then the dozens of food/drink traders who will have stalls at the venue will be of interest to you.

Island companies will be joined by traders from the mainland so there will be plenty of choice of goodies to taste, suiting most palates.

This food festival, though, is not just about trying new tastes. There will be a demo stage with top chefs showing their skills, cooking classes for all those keen to learn more, music and cream teas served by the volunteers at Northwood House.

One of the Island’s best known companies for drinks is the Mermaid brand from the IW Distillery and they say, “We’re delighted to be returning to the Great Wight Bite at Northwood House this year, alongside some of the Isle of Wight’s best producers from the incredible foodie scene we have on our Island home. With Mermaid infusions, cookery sessions, and drinks masterclasses, Mermaid will be flowing, giving you an ocean of opportunity to try our spirits.”

Highlighting Island produce is one of the aims of Great Wight Bite. Local producers and traders with produce on show include: Calbourne Classics, Wight Crystal, Richmond’s Bakery, Isle of Wight Tomatoes, The Garden and House, Cowes and Wight Whisky.

There is the chance to upgrade to a festival Dining Experience with “House” pop-up restaurant, Led by one of the Island’s more exciting chefs the “House” pop-up is the place to book if you are looking to dine in true festival style. Matt Egan has curated a menu that will be cooked over fire in partnership with Big Green Egg including dishes of Mackerel Fillets and Pork Loin all showcasing the best local produce and elevated by some seriously clever chef touches.

Away from the food stalls Leslies’s Motors is a supporter of the festival and for those, seeking a good read or, back to the food/drink theme, a recipe for a new dish from a cook book, staff from Medina Books will be on hand.

If you live on the mainland why not make a weekend of it and set sail for The Great Wight Bite with the headline sponsor of the food festival Red Funnel.
