GOLD AWARD FOR BROWNIE ELEANOR.

Eleanor Bell (10) a member of 10th Newport Brownies has gained the ‘Gold Award’ the highest award a Brownie can gain. She is the first member of 10th Newport to gain this award since it was introduced in 2018 as part of Girlguiding’s New Programme.

Eleanor had to undertake several challenges including working for interest badges on her own at home and a special project where she had to organise and involve all the other Brownies in her unit.

For her interest badges Eleanor, from Carisbrooke, decided on Painting, Baking and Gardening with Baking being the favourite. Cats are a firm favourite with Eleanor, so it is not surprising that she selected Cats Protection based in Ryde as her chosen charity. Eleanor undertook a project on cats as well as asking all the other Brownies to help with a collection of toys and equipment for the cats being sheltered at Ryde. A large collection of toys was received, and Eleanor will now deliver them to the cats.

Eleanor said, “I really enjoyed completing all the challenges and gaining the badges. I would recommend any Brownie to try and gain a Gold Award. The Certificate and badge are very special. I am now going to join Guides at Carisbrooke. I have already been to visit the Guides and I am really looking forward to joining them”
