With the Isle of Wight Summer carnival season now ended it is time to look back and see how Girlguiding can be promoted by entering a carnival or attending public events.
Hundreds of people line routes to witness carnivals and all those taking part in processions catch the publics eye. One such case was this year’s East Cowes carnival where not only did the town’s 4 units enter the event with their colourful entry but were awarded a 2nd prize in their class.
One of the leaders said after the event, “East Cowes Girlguiding attended the East Cowes carnival on Saturday. The day started with a fun day at the Town Hall attended by the leaders and a Guide. We promoted Girlguiding in the town and raised some much needed funds. We followed this by joining the East Cowes carnival parade. We carried our unit rainbow, made butterflies and wore our crowns. Again we advertised Guiding in the town. All sections were represented in the parade from Rainbow to Rangers. We were ecstatic to come second in the carnival group section.”
