All Sections Busy Through Spring & Summer.

All units have been busy with helping their communities and having fun in the great outdoors.

Litter picks have taken place as part of the BIG HELP OUT with units cleaning up their local areas. Carisbooke Guides helped deep-clean their meeting place whilst Carisbrooke Brownies cleared the roads hedgerows and lanes of any rubbish. Newport Rainbows and Brownies cleared areas of the town of rubbish- they were praised by someone from the Council.

County activities have included a Day/Night With The Tigers at the Wildheart Sanctuary, Sandown, Brownie and Rainbow County Days and a visit to the cinema to see The Little Mermaid.

The Guides County Day took place at the beginning of July and was STEM based there was lots of science fun as well as learning.

Around the Units the girls have:

Taken part in World Book Day and Earth Day

Made gifts for Care Homes

Enjoyed Coronation parties

Visited local attractions including Quarr Abbey and Monkey Haven

Had visits from local charities

Scattered wild flower seeds

Got ready for Summer Camps with tent pitching.

Some members completed ‘Walk the Wight’ in aid of Mountbatten whilst others were on hand to present the medals to walk finishers.

Now, with the sunny weather trips to the beach are proving popular.

Linda (Island Commissioner) had a half page in the IW Observer- Vectis View and she has also undertaken a radio interview.

Leaders had an interesting time at Northwood undertaking outdoor activities under the leadership of Kerry Hiscock the Outdoor Advisor.

Girls in The Bay area had the chance to learn about cars and their engines.

Guide units joined together for a cooking competition with the winners gaining The Squirrel Trophy. Winners this year were Eggy Nom Nom from 1st Gurnard Guides, 2nd Place was RAA from 11th Newport Guides. Third and fourth place were teams from 1st Carisbrooke Guides. The judges, members of Cowes Trefoil Guild, really enjoyed the food and congratulated the Guides of excellent team working.

In August the three IW members (2 Guides and a leader) selected to represent the UK in Austria will set off for their adventure and 3 Guide Units, 1st Carisbrooke, 1st Binstead and 11th Newport are heading to Wellies and Wristbands- a festival style camp with a difference.
