THE GREAT LEAP DAY- 29.2.2020.

Lift the Lid is a 2-year project aiming to reignite a sense of pride and passion on the cultural heritage of the Isle of Wight. This has been achieved by four art commissions across the island and workshops with six schools, to create work for the Lift the Lid exhibition currently displayed at Quay Arts in the West Gallery. To celebrate the end of the project there is The Great Leap Day on Saturday 29th February at Quay Arts from 10am – 2pm. This will be a day filled with artist led workshops, talks and discussions, and performances, which will be a response to and a celebration of the Island’s Cultural Heritage.

The project’s managers say. “We really want to make a big impact on this day across the Isle of Wight, trying to get everyone talking and thinking about what Island culture and heritage is and what it means to them, especially having a huge response from young people to really get an element of youth voice across. It would be great if you could talk about this with any young people you may work with and encourage them to attend The Great Leap Day, as well as encouraging them to get involved on social media using the hashtag #LetsCreateIW.
Everyone is welcome to come along and take part in the artist led workshops in the Clayden Gallery, the illustrated talk and discussion ‘Notable Newport’ about people from Newport who have made an impact on the world held in the Seminar Room, a carnival workshop, performances in the West Gallery, and the exhibitions in the West Gallery and Clayden Gallery (all free!) and more tbc – all aimed at children and young people.”
