
Girlguiding Southwest England Region chose the Isle of Wight for one of its Region Roadshows. Racheal Tattum. and her deputies Olivia Cox and Helen Barette, (pictured with Island Commissioner Wendy Macklin (L) above) travelled to the Island from the Region Office in Salisbury to join dozens of Island Leaders and Young Leaders.
In her welcome Racheal showed the Region figures.or the number of members, including Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers and Leaders. These numbers cover the Region. from Cornwall to Hampshire and Berkshire to the Channel Islands, including the Isle of Wight. Island numbers at present are good but new members are always welcome.
A. question/ answer session followed before a further presentation by Racheal showing the Island members participating in activities over the past year, including camps, sleepovers, adventures on the mainland and further afield as well as helping other Island charities and supporting local communities.
One of the Region’s Ambassadors, Catherine Roper. gave a fascinating,thought provoking and amusing insight Into policing. As well as being a Girlguiding Leader Catherine Is the Chief Constable of Wiltshire Police, following a career with the Metropolitan Police. In her presentation, she explained the similarities between policing and Girlguiding. A Quiz with topics on Policing, Girlguiding and venues in South West England followed.
An afternoon session focused on chocolate with demonstrations led by a team from Chocolate Craft, Hampshire. All those attending learned everything chocolate from pod to bar. Chocolate Craft supply Fortnum and Masons as well as other outlets and undertake chocolate workshops.
This Region Roadshow concluded with thanks to all those who had participated and everyone taking away chocolate creations.
