‘YOUR FUTURE’ – CAREERS AND JOBS FAIR

‘ Your Future’, a major careers and jobs fair, is being staged at the Isle of Wight College, Newport on Thursday 30 October, to give key advice to Island residents aged from 14 upwards including adults.

This event, commissioned by the Isle of Wight Council, will be attended by more than 45 employers, including leading skincare company, Liz Earle, the event sponsor.

There will also be representatives from Jobcentre Plus and local training providers (including HTP, the Isle of Wight College, Smart and CCL) and universities including Oxford and Cambridge.

People attending will have the chance to try taster sessions in a range of careers plus CV building and interview skills.

Companies looking to recruit have informed event organisers of their vacancies and Jobcentre Plus staff will be looking to match up their clients with prospective employers.

In addition, there will be advice and guidance on the new special educational needs and disabilities reforms, with support from the Isle of Wight Council and other organisations.

The event runs between 11am and 3pm with a free shuttle bus service available from the library stand at Newport bus station to the college and back (from 10.30am on the day).

Executive member for tourism and economy, Councillor Shirley Smart, said: “I would strongly encourage as many Island residents as possible to attend this excellent event.”

In 2013 more than 800 young people attended utilising the advice and guidance on offer to enhance and help focus their educational and career choices.

Isle of Wight College principal, Debbie Lavin, said: “We are delighted to once again host this event for the council as it gives a unique opportunity for employers to inform young people and job seekers on how to progress to employment in their industries.”
