Tea on the Sea- supported by Red Funnel.

One of the more unusual events for this year’s Celebrating Age Festival will be the chance to enjoy afternoon tea whilst watching the views of the Island and Southampton Water pass as you sail from East Cowes to Southampton and back.

As already reported the celebrating Age Festival starts on the 1st October with this mini cruise on board a Red Funnel Ferry.

Red Funnel is supporting Age Friendly Island’s  annual Celebrating Age Festival from 1st-7th October and with International Older Persons Day on Sunday 1st October what better day to choose.

This Festival aims to promote the richness and diversity of the Isle of Wight’s communities with events to interest all Islanders, whether they are looking to indulge in familiar activities or discover something entirely new. Full details can be found on another page of this website or at www.ageuk.org.uk/isleofwight

To coincide with International Old Persons Day, Red Funnel is holding a relaxing ‘Tea on the Sea’ round trip cruise aboard Red Falcon on Sunday 1st October. For just £5 per person, guests get to experience afternoon tea featuring delicious sandwiches and scones, a bit of history, games with lots of great prizes and more inside Red Funnel’s brand new Signature Lounge.

Red Funnel is also a Gold Partner for Age UK Isle of Wight’s 2017 ‘Celebrating Age’ awards and is sponsoring the ‘Age Friendly Volunteer’ award category.

Age UK Isle of Wight has been helping Red Funnel for some time by training customer facing staff on how to look after elderly travellers who may have mobility impairments or suffer from hearing or sight loss.

Kevin George, Red Funnel’s CEO commented “We would like to thank Age UK Isle of Wight for their invaluable help and guidance as we strive to offer the best possible welcome and service to our older customers. We are also very much looking forward to our ‘Tea on the Sea’ cruise to mark International Older Persons Day and the ‘Celebrating Age’ awards where we can’t wait to see who has won Red Funnel’s sponsored ‘Age Friendly Volunteer’ category.”

Emma Lincoln, the Age Friendly Island Team Leader for Age UK IW commented “I’d like to thank Red Funnel for their support and engagement with the Celebrating Age Festival and Awards, we are all really looking forward to having Tea on the Sea. It has been heartening to see the commitment shown by Red Funnel to our Age Friendly training, this has helped their frontline staff to better support and understand the needs of their older customers. This commitment from Red Funnel, and other local companies, is a vital step to creating an Age Friendly Island.”
