Local Guide Unit 1st Ryde Guides has taken part in Cheeky Monkey’s Marathon Challenge in aid of national children’s charity Children with Cancer UK. This challenge is based on the number 26, the same amount of miles in a marathon with those taking part sponsored to participate.

1st Ryde Guides chose to ask people to nominate a song to be played over the air on the Monday afternoon show at Angel Radio Isle of Wight

Karen Hull – Guide Leader said “We wanted to raise funds for Children with Cancer UK because it is such a worthy charity. The Guides were excited to be taking part in Cheeky Monkey’s Marathon Challenge and all the Guides were set to join in. It’s a wonderfully fun way to raise funds for a fantastic cause. We aim to raise as much as we can, which will be sent to the charity as soon as we have collected all the money. We would like to thank Chris Gutteridge and Bev Webster, the owners of Angel Radio and Dave Bushell and Steve Hull, whose show the songs were broadcast on, for welcoming us and giving us the chance to complete this challenge. We would also like to thank everyone who has sponsored a song for us to play.”

Ben Twyman, Head of Events at Children with Cancer UK, said “A huge thank you to1st Ryde Guides and to Chris, Bev, Dave and Steve of Angel Radio Isle of Wight for theirhard work, commitment and dedication. Without the support of young people including schools and Guides we could not continue our vital work to help save young lives. Everyone participating will receive a fantastically fun Cheeky Monkey souvenir as a thank you for their efforts.
