On 17th May some members of Girlguiding IW will be taking part in Riverfest which will be held on Newport Quay and along the banks of the River Medina. This event will run from 11am-3pm. For more details on this event see the Riverfest item on this web-site.

May is National Watersports Month and four sailing clubs on the Island are set to welcome dozens of newcomers to come and get out on the water during Royal Yachting Association ‘Push the Boat Out’ weekend.

Brading Haven Yacht Club, Royal Victoria YC, Gurnard Sailing Club, and Medina Valley Centre in Newport will all be opening their doors and inviting people of all ages and abilities to come along and have a go at sailing on Saturday 17th May.

Whether you’re completely new to the sport, looking to get back on the water or sail regularly, the Island clubs are amongst many sailing clubs and centres  across the country taking part in RYA Push the Boat Out weekend.  The event will see hundreds of people taking part in the sport at open days with have a go sessions and fun events for all the family.

Each club has a different start time so look for details on the web-sites.  Brading HavenYC is holding a friendly race for novices while Gurnard SC will have a Club Open Day with boats available to try.  Medina Valley Centre will be present at the Riverfest at Newport Quay, holding taster sessions in several boats and dinghies while Royal VictoriaYC will be holding an Open Day for anyone who wants to try sailing and find out more.  

 RYA Sport Development Manager Duncan Truswell said “Push the Boat Out provides the perfect opportunity for people to discover their local sailing venue, meet key volunteers and like-minded people, have a go at the sport and find out how much fun it is and how easy it is to get involved.”
