INTERNATIONAL CAMP FOR ISLAND GUIDES.

Members and leaders from 1st Ventnor and 1st Carisbrooke Guides are attending an International Camp in Berkshire during the school summer holiday. Entitled ‘Wings’ the camp will see Guides from around the world undertaking special activities as well as learning camping skills.

All the Guides are expected to fundraise so that they can attend this special event and to this end the Ventnor girls held a successful bag packing at Sainsburys, Newport  whilst the girls from Carisbrooke have been undertaking various craft making sessions and selling their goods at Riverfest at Newport Quay and a coffee morning/ sale at Carisbrooke. 

£862 in total was raised at Sainsburys and this money has now been added to other sums already raised by the Guides from Ventnor.

At ‘Wings’ there will be opportunities to take part numerous programme zones, including age specific programme zones and evening programmes across three dedicated venues with something to cater for everyone.

 Included in the planned events are:  Challenge Yourself Survival zone, Team Challenges, Get wet- go wild, Discover together- Girlguiding solutions to global issues, Imagine that Perform and create and Reach out to a community and life beyond ‘Wings’.

There will also be the chance to socialise with Guides from all over the World in the unique “Squircle” central space which includes an international showcase, shops, food, cinema, stages and a radio station.

Camping will be in 5 amazing sub camps with up to 6,000 participants and Unit Leaders.

Guides will be able to gain ‘Wings’ Challenge Awards, designed to test, encourage and stretch everyone and these unique awards will only  be available at the camp.

UK Units will have the opportunity to be partnered with an International Unit before, during and after the event with the aim to grow international relations, provide programme opportunities and build international friendships.
