East Cowes Brownies have enjoyed double celebrations of late.

All the Brownies, Rainbows and Guides together with their leaders recently undertook a community challenge by organising a Coffee Evening in aid of Macmillan Isle of Wight.

Everyone joined in with Brownies selling cakes and drinks, Rainbows holding a competition and making some cornflake cakes to sell and Guides making cakes and making and serving drinks.

Members of the public and friends and family of the girls supported their efforts and a total of £124:64 was raised for Macmillan.

2016 sees the 95th year of East Cowes Brownies and all the girls decided to celebrate with not only a party for themselves and invited guests but the presentation of the cheque to Macmillan.

This event took place at East Cowes Methodist Church where Jill Baybut from Macmillan was pleased to receive the cheque from all the Brownies, Guides and Rainbows. As well as representing Macmillan Jill is also a member of Newport Trefoil Guild.

Jill told the girls and the invited guests, who included Girlguiding IW Island Commissioner Lesley Clifford, that  it was hoped  that all of the money raised was destined to remain on the Island to not only help those with cancer but the sufferers families as well with whatever their needs might be.

Brownie leader Katie Charlton said, “Prior to the event the Brownies enjoyed making invitations for our guests. Those invited included members of Newport Trefoil Guild, members of the church, the Island Commissioners and Girlguiding members. At the Birthday Celebration the girls undertook activities all about badges and uniforms from the past. They enjoyed doing these activities with our guests. Birthday Cake and goodie bags ended the evening.”

Katie added,” It is just so wonderful that the girls raised so much money for Macmillan.”
