2018 sees the 50th Anniversary of the 1st Isle of Wight Festival. Although a very small festival, the 1968 version held at Godshill, was the inspiration for all the festivals that followed. In 1969 the IW Festival was held at Wootton and this was followed in 1970 by the great IW Festival at Afton near freshwater which reportedly played to 600,000 people.
